The Cockle Process

Preparing and writing your U.S. Supreme Court brief can be a daunting and sometimes overwhelming task. At Cockle Law Brief Printing Company, we aim to make the rest of the process a smooth one for you.

Simply type your brief as you would any normal document and send it to us via email, fax or overnight mail. There is no need to worry about formatting or using a particular font type or size—Cockle takes care of that for you. For appendix material, merely scan to PDF the items you wish to include and send them to us by email, fax or overnight mail.

Once we receive your documents, you can rest assured they become our top priority. We will contact your office to let you know they have arrived, discuss any questions or concerns we have, and advise you when to expect your proofs. One of our highly-trained Document Analysts will review your brief for rule compliance and also provide an in-depth review of your Questions Presented—a service no other printer provides. In addition, our analysts will review your appendix items to confirm the Court required documents are included and are in the correct order.

The preparation of your brief is handled precisely and in strict accordance with Supreme Court rules. On every typeset document, Cockle Law Brief Printing Company provides two highly-trained proofreaders who read your copy aloud, word-for-word, for any misspellings, inconsistencies and wording that may not be clear. For example, if a case citation takes one form on page 1 and another on page 20, our proofreaders will catch the inconsistency and question it on your proof. Our clients frequently comment on how much they appreciate this service and value our staff's expertise.

After we have reviewed, formatted and thoroughly proofread your document, we will send your proofs via email, fax or overnight service. You will have the opportunity to review the proofs for any additional edits and answer questions noted by our proofreaders. When you are ready, simply call us to discuss your edits. We will make the requested changes and begin printing your document right away.

The required 40 copies of your document will then be timely filed with the Clerk, opposing counsel, and any other individuals you have specified. Cockle also prepares the affidavit of service and the certificate of compliance. In nearly every case, we file your document the same day we print it!
